Sales Tax:
All vendors are required by the State of Indiana to obtain a permenant Sales Tax Permit and to collect the sales tax on all retail sales.

At the Indiana State Fairgrounds the Indiana State Sale Tax rate at the present (2008 Spring Show) is 6% and (2009 Spring Show) is 7%.   Indiana no longer issues temporary Sales Tax Permits.   The only method is to get a permenant Sales Tax Permit.   When making the application you can check which months you will be doing shows in Indiana and you will only receive reporting forms for those months or quarters of the year that include those months.   We will have the Business Tax Applications (Form BT-1) available for anyone that needs them.   There is a $25.00 Nonrefundable Registration Fee.   If you do not have a Permanent Permit, you must have this application form filled out and your check written in case a tax auditor questions you.   Do not pay your sales tax with your application for a permanent Sales Tax Permit.   On your application you indicate when you will start doing business.   After you make application for the permanent Permit you will receive the forms for the period covered by the time you stated you will start doing business.

On the application (Form BT-1)   for the permenant Sales Tax Permit you are ask to supple a North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) number.   While there is not one that describes show vender, a good one to use is 5996 which is for Miscellaneous Retail Sales.

To file the Form BT-1 online, go to webpage: https://secure.in.gov/apps/dor/bt1/

To print out a Form BT-1 to fill out and mail in, go to website: http://www.in.gov/dor/taxforms/pdfs/bt-1.pdf

In the event that you receive forms to report sales during a time period in which you did not do any shows, return the report marked zero sales.   Failure to do this will result in penalties.   You can call the Indiana Department of Revenue and have reporting periods changed: (317) 615-2538.   Mail the BT-1 applications to: Indiana Department of Revenue - PO Box 6197 - Indianapolis, IN 46206.

All dealers must record the customers Sales Tax ID number if making wholesale sales without collecting sales tax.   You do not report these sales on the reporting forms.
